Weekend Getaway: NYC Edition

This past Monday was Columbus day (which I hope you guys already knew…) and because of this the our school gives us a long weekend—that’s right I had Friday to Wednesday off to fuck around and do whatever I want *woot woot.* In these 5 days of freedom instead of going home like my other hoes I decided to be adventurous and meet up with three of my home friends in NYC, two of which attend NYU. I had an AWESOME weekend. It was filled with good food, good drinks and great people. In honor of the 10 pounds I gained I’m going to tell you all about the food I ate and drinks I drank. So get ready to be jealous of my mouth-wateringly delicious weekend.

Our first day was a whirlwind and unfortunately I didn’t write down any of the places we went but day 2 I kept a full log for you guys!

Our first stop Saturday morning was Cuba for—as my friends loveingly call it—DRUNCH, yep, that would be drunk lunch for all of you outsiders. For 14$ Cuba offers endless drinks, and the food is reasonably priced as well! I got a veggie omelet with cheese and home fries for lunch and ill tell you, it was HUGE and delicious. I also had an endless supply of mimosas to keep me going which Ive never heard anyone complain about (my friends mixed up their drinks but I stuck to the breakfast classic *see rule 12*). After Drunch we walked—ok fine giddily skipped—back to one of my friends apartments to shower and take a quick powernap. For the next few hours we wandered through the farmers markets, went shopping (hello new bras) and caught up on everything we had missed in each-others lives over the past two months. It was a lovely afternoon.

At 5 o’clock, we were off to 212 Hisae’s, a bar—and restaurant I guess— for happy hour. 212 is an Asian place in the East Village when you sit down you are given a huge bowl of edamame (which I mean YUM) along with your food and drink menus. The staff is awesome, super friendly and the owner is the sweetest little lady ever, it started pouring and she gave my friends and I umbrellas when we left. We were just there for happy hour so we didn’t order any food but we all did get drinks. My friends ordered a Mint Mojito, Lechi Martini, Long Island Iced Tea, and Wiskey Sour I decided on a Singapore Sling (a rum triplesec strawberry-   ish drink), they were all fantastic, but the best part, all drinks are 4$. Like ALL THE TIME. How awesome is that! If you’re in the East Village (St Marks street area) this is definitely a place you should stop!

By 6:30 we needed some food in our system. Half of my group of 8 home girlfriends are vegetarian so I grew up in vegetarian and vegan restaurants, this weekend not being an exception. We decided on the vegan restaurant By Chloe. Don’t run away just because I’m saying vegan, this place is honestly so BOMB. I know it sounds scary and you’re like Hoe 4 I need meat… I appreciate some good meat as well but this place is a must for any type of eater. I had the Guac burger, which was a black bean-quinoa-sweet potato burger with corn salsa, onions, guac, tortilla strips and chipotle aioli on a whole grain bun. After this I could hardly finish my side of the kale artichoke dip. (Whenever my friends and I see artichoke dip of any kind on a menu we get it, I’m not sure why its just a thing). My friends got the Sweet potato Mac and Cheese (so good) and the quinoa taco salad (also fantastic). Although I think you could have gotten drinks there we decided against, knowing we had a long night still ahead of us.

After that very filling meal we decided (obviously) we needed to head out to the bars. We went to a few that were good, crowded rowdy places but I loved the Mexican place we went. Although it’s a bar AND restaurant Blockheads is a great place to grab some 3$ (YEP 3$) margaritas, and enjoy bottomless chips and homemade salsa. Blockheads has a great atmosphere, when we sat down a 21st birthday party was well underway. Our server was great, he was funny, talked to us and kept bringing out the chips; we actually ended up going back the next day and got the same server (he remembered us).

Our last stop before heading to a rooftop birthday party, (it overlooked the entire city, the lit up skyline was beautiful) and the clubs, was Bar None. I feel like this is a touristy place that most people know about, but it’s a classic. We got there around 11:30-midnight and it was packed with boys *men* watching the soccer and baseball games in the front and girls on the dance floor in the back. My group all got a beer on tap and danced, people watched, and hung out. I lost a game of odds and had to go up to a super cute boy and tell him he was attractive. Liquid confidence helped me walk up to him, but once I told him he was cute I ran away… oh well at least I tried. That was it for the food and bars for the night, after that we ventured to the birthday party and a club (thank you bottle service for the free drinks).

Whenever my friends and I go on a vacation somewhere we make it a goal to find an underrated place that serves THE BEST bagels, NYC’s place: Space Market. One of their locations is right outside Washington Square Park, and I’m telling you if you’re in the neighborhood you must stop and get a bagel. I got a toasted everything bagel with CHIVE cream cheese, bacon, tomato, avocado, and sprouts. It was like eating heaven. Seriously it was probably one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth. So if you take anything away from this post go to Space Market. It was amazing. UGH I wish I could have that bagel again right now. (My bagel is the middle)
